What the iPhone YouTube App Should Have Been
My iPod Touch is perhaps the best Mac I’ve ever owned. It’s never crashed, it is extremely intuitive, and it does everything I expect it to. There are two things that I think the iPhone lacks, however. One is obvious: Flash. Once the iPhone gets flash, it will truly have the “real” internet. The other, though, is a much better YouTube app.
The current YouTube app doesn’t do much. You can search for videos by title, watch them, and then search for more videos by title. What do I want the YouTube app to do? I’m glad you asked.

Upon launching the app, you will be prompted to log in. You can, of course, choose not to by clicking the X, but then you’ll miss out on…

The latest videos from your subscibers… in CoverFlow! clicking on the image or the title takes you to the video. Clicking on the username or the timestamp takes you to…
The user’s page. This is the one huge feature that the YouTube app lacks. What if you want to browse around a certain user’s videos? You can’t. The best you can do is search for their username. And that rarely gets you videos by that user. This would be yet another feature in YouTube App Take 2. Searching for a username will give you the same results as currently, with a little bar at the top asking if you wanted to go to the userpage of the user you searched for.
When a video is completed, the “Related” page will slide up, same as before, except you will be able to click not only on the video title, but also on the user name, to go to their page.
Sound off in the comments below about this idea, and any other ways you might fix YouTube.app on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Great article, I just wish Apple did this when putting YouTube on the iPod Touch. I would probably use the app if they had.
